Bach Off!: KSU’s “Battle of the Bands” Composer Competition

Hundreds of students at Kennesaw State University turned out to vote for their favorite local bands in the opening round of a new tournament-style music event.

The competition, organized with help from Owl Radio and the Musicians Union, will award $500 to the top-voted band in October.

Several groups took the stage, including Hot Dog Stand of Eternal Glory, Alianca Ensemble and Stair 8.

But controversy struck when the band Safer Side was disqualified after a performer made an allegedly racially charged joke during their set.

Event coordinators said they were surprised by the turnout and credited the campus radio station’s involvement for the event’s early success.

Organizers say the competition is expected to grow and draw even more attention in the future.

Music fans are encouraged to attend, connect with new people, and experience the wide range of local talent.
